If you are in retail, you should be planning for Christmas already
Some large retailers report that Christmas is their most popular search term from the beginning of September. Most brands launch their Christmas campaigns in November. If you haven’t thought about Christmas yet, it’s time to get started!
Here are three ways to maximise profit from Christmas that retailers should consider:
Advertise what’s happening in-store
Make sure you have plenty of Christmas signage up. This should include signage outside your premises, a good window display including window clings and plenty of posters. Make sure you tell people about:
- Any extended opening hours
- Special Christmas offers
- Any Christmas events
Upsell your customers
One of the easiest ways to do this is to offer Christmas-themed gift wrapping as an extra option. Many people want the hassle of wrapping taken from them. So offer to wrap presents with your own themed wrapping paper and tags. And make sure you have cards available for purchase at the till area.
Encourage shoppers to spend more
Incentivise customers to increase their purchases by offering a gift if they spend a certain amount. This can be a very economic way to encourage people to buy more. For instance, a chocolate advent calendar with your own branding can start at less that £4 per unit. Other ideas include mugs, calendars and gift boxes.
